David Danz grew up in the Gold Country town of Sonora, located in the foothills of Northern California. He discovered his love for the arts in Elementary and Highschool and began his journey of becoming an artist, by enrolling at Delta Junior College in Stockton where he studied drawing, printmaking and calligraphy. He completed his art education at the presitgious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena where he received his BFA in Illustration in 1983.
After working a few jobs to help support his family, in 1985 David and his High School sweetheart and wife, Sandy, and their first child, moved to Marin County, across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, where David pursued his dream of becoming an illustrator. In addition to being a Mom, Sandy became his studio manager, and Artist Rep, showing David’s portfolio to perspective clients in the San Franciso Bay area. After 4 years, and 3 more children, David was able to transistion into full-time freelance illustration, and decided to work exclusively in scratchboard, a medium that received the most attention in his portfolio. Thus began a 35 year-long career, and his list of high profile clients included Miller Coors, Apple Computer, Chevron, N.Y. Stock Exchange, General Mills, Hunt-Wesson Inc., Bank of America, Wells Fargo Bank, William Sonoma and and many more. From 1994-2014, he was hired to conceptualize and illustrate the main focal illustration for the various flavors of Blue Moon Beer, prior to their redesign in 2015.
In 1992, David and Sandy returned to the Gold Country to finish raising their family, moving to Placerville where they currently reside today. David has set aside his scratchboard tools to pursue his fine art, something that he has longed to pursue, throughout his carreer as an illustrator. He now uses his creative energy to create watercolor paintings in plein air, as well as in his home studio. His paintings are his interpretations of the beautiful scenes and landscape of Placerville, El Dorado County and the Gold Country of the Sierra foothills. His artwork can be seen and purchased through his website www.daviddanz.com. David is a member of Placerville Art Association, Rancho Cordova Arts, and the National Watercolor Society.
