Jann writes "I have been painting since I was a child - I got my first painting kit filled with brushes, oils and canvas panels when I was seven years old. As a teenager, I painted murals in my high school gym. I attended college at California College of Arts and Crafts and then San Francisco State University, where I earned a B.A. in art with an emphasis in printmaking. I also studied printmaking at Kala Institute in Berkeley.
"I worked as a printmaker for a number of years, as well as a professional photographer, until I decided to go to graduate school to study psychology. I worked as a social worker for several years and then went to law school. I practiced law and kept up my painting for the last 20 years. I left the legal field five years ago, and was able to focus solely on painting. I showed my work in several galleries in the Bay Area.
"Recently, I moved to the mountains, looking for more solitude in which to paint. This beautiful country has been inspirational. I use my photographs as a resource for my work, but I do not emulate photo-realism. Rather, I use a more painterly, impressionistic style. I enjoy saturated colors and simplified shapes.
"The practice of art is a meditation for me; I find peace in nature and so much beauty in trees and wildlife. I paint landscapes, cityscapes, still life and portraits, and I am available for commissions."
